Statement
My work is an investigation of the complexities that take place between extremes regarding embodiment. I present the body engaging in various forms of consumption, ranging from the psychological to the literal. Violent and often sexualized, the figures are caught reacting to their own acts or observations. They occupy a space of volatility, anger, fear, ambivalence or defeat.
Recently, my work has shifted its approach to that of passive witnessing. The figures are less confrontational with the viewer. Instead, they are completely engulfed in their own minds and settings. The narrative is obscured through cinematic staging, shadows and cropping. The scenes are ominous, and tinged with a feeling of animality, ritual and sacrifice. The tension of unknowing leaves a space for the viewer to project their own fears into the work.
